Setting Values

Use the arrow keys to move around and press numbers to set penned values. When in normal pen mode the current cell is highlighed in orange.  The active cell moves to the next cell when a value is entered.

Penciling

Penciling is adding potential candidate numbers to each cell.  When in pencil mode, a small number is added when a number key is pressed.  If the number is already set then the number toggles off (rubout).  The current cell is marked in blue when pencil mode is active.

When the Pencil button is clicked, all current penciling is removed.  If there is no pencil then all candidates are penciled in automatically.

As pen is added the pencil is not normally adjusted but there is an option to automatically remove candidates as pen values are entered.  With Kakuro, these are simple adjustments and re-doing the pencil may provide additional refinement.

Lock

When the Lock button is clicked, all current penned cells are locked so that they cannon be changed.  This is intended to be used after the clues have been added to a blank puzzle.  The lock on individual cells can be toggled with the # key.

Hints and Solutions

When you click the hint button or display a solution to the puzzle, each step is given in the following shorthand format:

[Type] [Unit] @ [Reference] > [Update]

Type  The type of hint; explained below.
Unit  Row, Column, Box or Cell.  Box is a block of 3x3 cells, numbered 1-9 from top left.
Reference  A list of cells that effect the hint.  These cells are highlighted in dark green.
Update  A list of updates with '=' meaning set cell to value and 'x' meaning remove the corresponding pencil mark.  These cells are highlighted in light green.

Types of hint are:

Kakuro Clues

Kakuro clue blocks are entered as, for example, (11\34) with the first number the down clue and the second the across clue.  If there is just a down clue use (11) and for just an across clue use (\34).  A blanking cell is entered as ().  Shorthand can be used for a set of clues next to each other, omitting the ")"; so ((13(9(23) is the same as ()(13)(9)(23).

Generating Sudoku Puzzles

Sudoku puzzles may be generated using the generator tool.  This runs in the background generating puzzles of the levels of symettry and complexity that you choose.  The puzzles may be saved to any group.  Once saved, the puzzles should be cleared before generating more to avoid saving duplicates.
